What is Pomodoro?
The Pomodoro technique is a time management method developed in the late 1980s. It is a structured method consisting of processes and principles that help individuals learn how to manage their time effectively and boost productivity. It is based on a series of principles built on self-observation and awareness.
Why do I use Pomodoro?
Lately, I have been getting distracted by multitasking and being consumed by self-provocative thoughts that lead to unproductive actions, eating up my time. I also get easily distracted by external factors like articles. As a result, the demands of time and unfinished tasks create anxiety within me, and I feel the need to pause and focus on my current tasks.
How to use the Pomodoro technique?
The idea behind the Pomodoro technique is to work for 25 minutes followed by a 2-5 minute break. I will set my timer for 25 minutes, work diligently until the alarm rings, and then take a 5-minute break. I will repeat this cycle four times and then take a longer break of 15-30 minutes.
During each Pomodoro, I will review and reflect on what could have been done better before moving on to the next task. I will do whatever it takes to stay focused and protect myself from both internal and external distractions. This includes avoiding checking my phone, browsing the internet for news or articles, watching unnecessary YouTube videos, or engaging in any other activities that divert my attention from my tasks.
Outcome
Tonight was my first time practicing the Pomodoro technique, and I completed 5 Pomodoros. I did see some positive results from my study session tonight, although there is still room for improvement.
